Lifting Gear was where it all began in 1982, specialising in repairing, refurbishing, and custom lifting equipment solutions.
Industrial Doors:
By 2005, we started providing industrial doors to various businesses around the country. We now offer a wide range of doors, from single personnel doors to large air hangar doors, whilst ensuring the same standards of quality and reliability in every installation.
Electro-mechanical Services
Our expert engineers provide comprehensive electrical and mechanical services, including design, manufacturing, maintenance, inspection, refurbishment, diagnostics, and testing of electrical installations and rotating machinery.
Electrical Solutions:
In 2020, we started to provide wholesale electrical supplies and services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers through our online store.
Green Solutions
Now, moving into the future, we’re leading the way in sustainable innovation. We help businesses achieve net-zero with solar panels, battery storage, heating systems, and EV charging.

Jacqueline
Jacqueline started at Mercia in 2003, drawn by the people and values that have remained central to the company. When she joined, it was a small family-run business, but she has since witnessed its growth into a multifaceted enterprise, embracing both traditional business solutions and green initiatives. Mercia is constantly pushing itself to offer more to customers, a drive instilled by its founders, Ron and Don, and now continued by their sons.
Beginning in accounts, Jacqueline’s role has expanded to managing wages and payments for multiple companies. Despite not pursuing formal professional development, she has always had the support needed to bridge any gaps. Mercia’s culture encourages employees to take initiative, trusting them to handle new projects and align with the company’s approach.
The company’s strong sense of community is a key reason why employees stay. Jacqueline recalls a difficult time when Mercia provided exceptional support, highlighting the value placed on people as individuals. Over the years, she has built strong friendships, and core members of the team remain dedicated to the company’s success.
Looking ahead, Jacqueline hopes Mercia continues to thrive. After 21 years, she describes her experience simply: “I’ve been here 21 years. Doesn’t that say it all?
Gemma
It’s clear that Gemma, who joined Mercia 18 months ago, has experienced significant development in her role as an Admin Assistant. Initially tasked with job scheduling, ordering goods, and various operational duties, her responsibilities have expanded as she’s become more integrated into the company. “When I started, it was simple tasks, but the longer you’re here, the more you get involved,” she explained. This reflects Mercia’s commitment to employee growth and career development.
One of the standout aspects of Mercia’s culture for Gemma is the variety her role offers. “Two days are never the same,” she remarked, adding that while some days are routine, others are filled with challenges that require problem-solving and adaptability. “I like those busy days when you’re constantly on the go, learning something new,” she shared.
Mercia’s family-oriented culture is also important to Gemma. She highlighted the company’s flexibility, particularly in allowing her to manage family commitments, such as school runs. Additionally, Mercia supported her through personal challenges, including a burglary at her home, offering the flexibility she needed to cope. Overall, Gemma is excited about her future at Mercia and looks forward to continuing her growth with the company.
James
James joined Mercia at 20, having known the company through family friends. Transitioning to full-time work was a challenge, but he quickly adapted. “I was a bit naive about how hard work can be, but it’s manageable,” he shared.
James’ role involves a mix of welding, electrical work, and industrial fabrication. “We make cranes, and my job includes welding, fabricating, and working on the electrical panels that control them.” He enjoys the hands-on nature of the work, especially stripping down machines and rebuilding them.
Though he didn’t go through a formal apprenticeship, James has earned multiple qualifications, including welding certificates and ongoing electrical training. “I’m about to start my Level 3, which will let me take on more independent electrical work.” Mercia has supported his professional growth every step of the way.
James values the camaraderie at Mercia, where he enjoys working with his colleagues in a supportive and light-hearted environment. “We have a good laugh, but the work gets done,” he said. While he looks forward to exploring new projects, he’s content with his current role. “I like being on the tools and getting out on-site.”
For James, Mercia is all about “hard, honest work for good people.
